Justice Lana Myers was appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeals by Governor Rick Perry on December 2, 2009. She ran for election to keep her seat and was elected on November 2, 2010 to a full term. At the time of her appointment, she was serving as the judge of the 203rd Judicial District Court in Dallas, Texas, and had presided over this court for nearly fifteen years.

Justice Myers began her legal career at the Dallas County District Attorney's Office where she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the trial division for twelve years. After resigning that position to run for office, she practiced criminal defense until she was elected judge of the 203rd Judicial District Court in 1994.

As judge of the 203rd District Court, Justice Myers presided over hundreds of trials and disposed of thousands of cases including capital murder, child abuse, aggravated robbery, aggravated sexual assault, family violence, burglary, and drug offenses. She received special recognition for her work in starting and presiding over S.T.A.R. Court, an innovative specialty court designed to reduce recidivism among female offenders charged with felony prostitution.

Justice Myers is a member of the Dallas Bar Association, and served for many years as chair and co-chair of the Mock Trial Committee. She is a Master in the Patrick E. Higginbotham Inn of Court and serves on its executive committee. Justice Myers also serves on the planning committee for the Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI).
