Chief David L. Ashburn has been the Angleton Police Chief since April 1998. Chief Ashburn came from Navasota, Texas where he was the Chief for about 2 ½ years. He started his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Corsicana Police Department working his way up the ranks from patrolman to sergeant and then Asst. Chief. Chief Ashburn earned an Associates Degree in Business from Northlake College and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Dallas Baptist University. Chief Ashburn also graduated the FBI National Academy 177th Session in 1994 and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, Leadership and Command College Class #48 in 2004.

Chief Ashburn is a member of the International Association Chiefs of Police, the Texas Police Chiefs Association and the Southeast Texas Police Chiefs Association. Chief Ashburn is pro community policing. For example Chief started the Citizen Police Academy, Turn Around Angleton Program, a K-9 Program, a Motorcycle Program and other programs in Angleton. Ashburn, the father of three Eagle Scouts, continues to support Boys Scouts of America through volunteering his time on the local and district levels. The Police Department also sponsors Explorer Post #501.

Chief Ashburn and wife Nancy have been married for over 28 years. Nancy is an appraiser. They are proud parents of three sons, daughter in law and one grandson.
