Bachelor’s and law degree from Southern Methodist University

Abney is an attorney with Abney and Warwick. He is a trustee of the Marshall Regional Medical Center Foundation and executive board member of the Southern Methodist University Dedman College. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and Northeast Texas and Harrison County Bar associations. He is also a member and director of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, president of the Harrison County March of Dimes, director and chairman of division of Harrison County United Way, and past chairman of the Texas Red River Boundary Commission.

Abney received a bachelor's degree and a law degree from Southern Methodist University.
