Personal Information

Jackie Welch was born in 1935 in Hobart, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Alva, Oklahoma where Jackie graduated from high school in 1952.

It was in Alva that she met and married Bill Welch. The couple moved to Oklahoma City where Jackie received training as a histology technologist at St, Anthony Hospital. The couple moved to Pasadena, Texas where Jackie continued her training at St. Luke’s Hospital and was employed by Pasadena Pathology Associates, where she was the chief histotechnologist for 38 years until her retirement.

Jackie’s interest is community endeavors. Some of her activities and accomplishments are:

*Charter member and twice president of Mu Alpha Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
*Former queen of Pasadena Philharmonic Society’s Mardi Gras Ball. She is a member of the executive board and is 2nd vice president of that organization.
*She is a charter member of the Pasadena Pet Adoption program and currently serves on the board of directors.
*She has been the secretary and vice president on the executive board of the Bridge and now provides photographic services at Bridge events.
*Worked with the HOST program at Fisher Elementary School for two years and has served as photographer for the HOST breakfast for five years.
*She is the event photographer for the Texas Chiropractic College.
*She is on the board of the Pasadena Sister City program.
*Serves on the honorary board of the Pasadena Little Theater.
*She is a member of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and is a vice chairman of the Cultural Arts committee where she chairs the Theater Night fundraiser and the Christmas Tree Circle at Pasadena City Hall. She also serves on the Taste of the Town committee and helps with photography events as needed.
*Member of the San Jacinto Day Foundation, where she is 1st vice president on the executive board and public relations chairman.
*She is an honorary member of the Pasadena Rotary Club and historian photographer and publicity chairman for the Pasadena Rotary Anns.
*She is an honorary member of the Bay Area Aggie Club and is an event photographer for the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce.
*She is a member of the Pasadena Historical Society where she serves as historian.
*She is a member of the Republican Women’s Association serving as photographer and scrapbook chairperson.
*Jackie is a member of the San Jacinto College Foundation board of directors, where she works on the Scholarship committee and as photographer for foundation events.
*Is a Pasadena Diplomat, an organization sponsored by the Mayor and City Council to perform various duties at City functions, assisting visiting dignitaries, etc.
*Member of the First Presbyterian Church.
*Recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Soroptomists, Texas Festivals (TEEA) Golden Gloves, by the Bridge as Board Member of the Year and by the Texas Chiropractic College and the Pasadena Pet Adoption program. She was also honored by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce as the Citizen of the Year for 1999-2000, also being honored by the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce as the Volunteer of the Year.
*Hobbies include growing hibiscus and she is a member of the Pasadena and American Hibiscus Societies. She enjoys amateur photography and does volunteer photography and publicity for many civic groups including Mu Alpha Sorority, Sister City Inc., Pasadena Philharmonic Society, The Bridge, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Cultural Arts committee, Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, Texas Chiropractic College, San Jacinto Day Foundation, Rotary Ann Club, Pasadena Gloves, Pasadena Pet Adoption program, Republican Women’s Association, the Mayor’s Diplomat group, the Pasadena Citizen newspaper, Vern Cox Multipurpose Center, Madison Jobe Senior Center, the American Red Cross and Pasadena Parks and Recreation department. Her collections include music boxes, antique saltcellars, carousel animals and “anything interesting.” She enjoys antique hunting with her husband Bill, who retired after 28 years as director of the clinical lab at Bayshore Medical Center; he has been a long-time city councilman himself. Jackie says, “I retired to devote more time to community endeavors.”
