In April of 2009, Governor Rick Perry appointed Larry G. Holt, a practicing attorney in Bryan/College Station, to a five-month term to serve as a commissioner at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to replace Cruz Hernandez of Burleson who resigned. Holt was then reappointed by Perry to a full six-year term in September of 2009.
Holt attended Baylor University where he earned his J.D. (Juris Doctor) and earned a LL.M. (Master of Laws) from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He practices in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust, wills, real estate, oil and gas, and public finance. He is very dedicated to the support of libraries and archives in the role of each in enhancing and extending the total educational process. He brings to the commission his legal knowledge of the importance of records maintenance and retrieval and his experience in representing educational and other charitable foundations.
