Boaz is an attorney in private practice, former Jones County Attorney, and chief of trial teams for the El Paso County District Attorney's Office. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association and Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association. He is also past trustee of the First United Methodist Church in Anson.

Boaz received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law.
