Mr. Hyde received his Juris Doctor with cum laude honors from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998
George E. Hyde is one of the Firm’s five Equity Partners and offices in the Firm’s Austin Office. Mr. Hyde obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (Law Enforcement) from Texas State University in 1988. Mr. Hyde began his professional legal experience as a civil trial legal assistant in 1989. He assisted trial attorneys in Texas and Federal courts litigating tort, employment, legal malpractice and products liability litigation matters until entering law school in August 1996. Mr. Hyde obtained his Juris Doctor cum laude from St. Mary’s University School of Law in December 1998. Mr. Hyde is admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the Western, Southern and Northern United States District Courts of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
In 1999, Mr. Hyde began defending local government and local officials in State & Federal courts on claims based in tort, contract, property, Federal & state statutory claims, civil rights, administrative law and in employment matters. Mr. Hyde’s first local governmental entity representation was as Assistant General Counsel for Alamo Workforce Development, Inc. of San Antonio. He later defended school teachers in employment matters for the Texas Education Association. Mr. Hyde then joined the Firm as an Associate Attorney on March 1, 2001.
Early in his career with the Firm, he successfully represented Texas clients coast-to-coast, in trial court on suits filed in the Northern Federal District Court of California and the Eastern District Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Hyde has conducted federal, state and municipal court trials, injunction proceedings and/or dispositive hearings in the Western and Southern U.S District Courts of Texas, in multiple Texas district and county courts and municipal courts. Finally, Mr. Hyde has maintained an appellate practice that has included representing clients in the Fifth Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the Texas Third, Fourth and Thirteenth district courts of appeals and in the Texas Supreme Court. He is approved legal counsel to represent members of the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool and the Texas Association of Counties Risk Pool in litigation and administrative law matters.
In 2003, Mr. Hyde obtained is first appointment as City Attorney for a Type A General Law City and also served as General Counsel for its Type B Economic Development Corporation. In the same year, he also established the Firm’s municipal prosecution services practice. Since, he has continuously served several other cities, as litigation counsel, special counsel, City Attorney and has continued his work on economic development matters. Mr. Hyde promoted within the Firm to Partner in 2008 and to Equity Partner in 2009.
Since 1989 and throughout his career, Mr. Hyde also volunteered, became employed, subsequently retired and returned to volunteering as a Texas Peace Officer. Mr. Hyde’s performance in law enforcement endeavors elevated him to the rank of Lieutenant while serving as Special Operations, Professional Standards & Training Commander for a San Antonio suburban city. Mr. Hyde holds a Texas Master Peace Officer license with Texas state certifications as an Instructor and a Firearms Instructor issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Mr. Hyde also serves as a regular state-wide speaker, providing training in many aspects of local government operations and management.
