Ponthier is an attorney in private practice and former assistant city attorney for the City of Houston. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She is also president of the Newton Chamber of Commerce and event chair of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Newton County.

Tracy received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a law degree from South Texas College of Law.
