Laura Hill graduated from Randolph-Macon Women's college in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1979. She has been a resident of Southlake since 1997, along with her three children. Laura is a proud Aggie Mom to daughter, Maggie a sophomore at Texas A&M University, and two sons, Preston, 14, and Trent, 10. Laura is married to Joe McSweeny.
She works in her family business, Downey Publishing, which is headquartered here in Southlake. Downey Publishing is an independent telephone directory company, which publishes over 30 phone directories throughout, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Laura was recently named the 2007 Southlake Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
Laura and her company are extremely active in our community, both in volunteer and philanthropic roles. She is a graduate of the Southlake Citizen's Academy and graduate of Southlake's CERT program. Along with the time she dedicates to her duties on City Council, she is also a member of Southlake's Fire Rehab team, Southlake DPS Citizen's Association, the Southlake Historical Society and the Southlake Chamber of Commerce. She is also sits on the boards for Metroport Teen Court, the Southlake Parks Development Corporation and her neighborhood homeowner's association. Laura is also the Chairman and driving force behind the City's new task force, S.P.A.R.K.S., Students and Parents against Risks to out Kids in Southlake, and is one of the four members of the Southlake Angel Society, a non-profit organization which gives financial support and services to Southlake City Employees in time of need.
