Personal Information

Dr. Joyner has extensively studied the measurement of family formation and dynamics in surveys and currently serves as Chair-Elect for the Family Section of the American Sociological Association. Funded by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, she is a Co-PI for a longitudinal mixed-methods study of a randomized controlled trial of a Cash Plus program in San Antonio. She joined IDSER as Co-Director in June of 2025 and became Director of IDSER on September 1, 2025. As a professor in the Department of Sociology and Demography at UTSA, she has served as Editor-in-Chief for Population Research and Policy Review and President of the Southern Demographic Association. Prior to UTSA, she was a tenured professor at Cornell University and Bowling Green State University (BGSU). At BGSU, she served as Associate Director of an NIH-funded population center and Chair of the Institutional Review Board.
